GSO - A Gippsland Proms

Sunday 10 December 2:00pm
Proms,
short of promenade concert, refer to an outdoor concert where audience
members can move freely during the performance. The Proms is an
institution in England with an eight-week season culminating in the
internationally recognised concert extravaganza ‘The Last Night of the
Proms’. John Hopkins AM OBE introduced Prom concerts to Melbourne in the
1960/70 when he was chief conductor of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
Gippsland
Symphony Orchestra's 'A Gippsland Proms' concert will have a
balance of serious classical music, ranging from the subtle beauty of
Elgar’s Nimrod from Enigma, 2nd movement for Haydn’s Surprise
Symphony through to the joyous celebration that is Pomp and
Circumstance No 1 and Peter Sculthorpe’s moving tribute to his father, Irkanda
IV.
This is the GSO’s first Prom and they will present a
selection of works from the classical and romantic idiom as well as
featuring works by Australian composers, two of whom are residents of
Gippsland. Imagine attending this iconic musical event! If you can, come
along and celebrate the GSO in their first Prom concert!
