Music Making Workshop
Expressions Festival

Sunday 17 August 1:00pm
Lyrebird
Room, West Gippsland Arts Centre
Join Malcolm
McCaffery—musical director, published poet, and prolific songwriter with
over 150 song writing credits on released tracks—for a hands-on, inspiring
workshop that dives deep into the art (and craft) of songwriting. Malcolm
is the creative force behind The McCaffery Family band and composer
of orchestral works performed by the Gippsland Symphony Orchestra
and its youth ensemble. His music directing credits span The Producers,
Into the Woods, and Strictly Ballroom, and he currently leads
the Renaissance Revival Orchestra, West Gippsland Community Choir,
and Youth Choir.
Whether you're picking up a guitar, a pen,
or just your voice, this session will explore:
- What makes a song
stick;
- Getting started when you don’t know how;
- Beating
writer’s block and creative burnout;
- Home-recording tips
without breaking the bank; and
- How to release and publish your music
on major platforms.
Bring your acoustic instrument (or just your
voice) and join a room full of creatives ready to shape sound into story.
No experience required—just curiosity and a love of music.
